President Joe Biden's reelection campaign launched an official TikTok account Sunday evening. The account is noteworthy because TikTok is currently banned on most U.S. government-issued devices. The TikTok account, with the handle "@bidenhq," debuted Sunday during Lunar New Year celebrations in China and Super Bowl 58 in the U.S. Biden campaign advisors told NBC News the TikTok account is part of an effort to meet voters where they are. While no Club earnings are scheduled to report earnings in the week ahead, 61 companies in the S & P 500 will deliver their latest quarterly results. Consistently beating the competition over a decade and a half is a sign that Bill Nygren is worth listening to. Amelia Earhart is photographed with her Lockheed Model 10-E Electra, the aircraft she used in her attempted flight around the world. “While it is possible that this could be a plane and maybe even Amelia’s plane, it is too premature to say that definitively. In Earhart’s last communications, her radio transmissions progressively got stronger as she got closer to Howland Island, indicating that she was nearing the island before she disappeared, Cochrane said. For that reason, you can never say that something is (or isn’t) from a sonar image alone,” Jourdan said in an email. Confirming that the found anomaly is Earhart’s plane would require returning to the site to further investigate the plane, and more definitively, locating the certification “NR16020” that was printed on the underside of the missing Lockheed’s wing, Jourdan said.

While waiting for Congress to pass a budget and potentially approve more money for Ukraine’s fight, the U.S. will be looking to allies to keep bridging the gap. Tuesday's meeting will focus on longer-term needs, deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters Monday. “Even though we aren’t able to provide our security assistance right now, our partners are continuing to do that,” Singh said. Media affiliated to Hamas said explosions and gunfire could be head in the northern part of the Gaza Strip ahead of the truce deadline. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report and there was no immediate comment from Israel or Hamas. Mark Regev, an adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Israel was open to continuing the ceasefire if Hamas committed to further hostage releases. Israel had previously set the release of 10 hostages a day as the minimum it would accept to pause its assault. [1/4] Jordan's King Abdullah II hosts an international conference attended by the main U.N. bodies and regional and international relief agencies to coordinate humanitarian aid to war-devastated Gaza, in Amman, Jordan November 30, 2023. With Israel refusing to allow any aid in through its borders, supplies have been flown and driven into Egypt's Sinai Peninsula for delivery to Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Israel has bombarded Gaza in response to an Oct. 7 rampage into southern Israel by Hamas militants who killed some 1,200 people and took more than 200 hostage. Israel had previously called for increasing the amount of aid taken into Gaza from Egypt, including shipments provided by Jordan, said the official, who requested anonymity. Bottlenecks and capacity limitations at the Rafah crossing mean it cannot handle more than 200 trucks a day.

A Strategic Dilemma

Israel and Hamas have extended their truce for two days — through tomorrow — which will bring the pause in fighting to six days. For Israel’s leaders in particular, the pause has created a strategic dilemma. Within Israel, families of the hostages have called on their country’s leaders to prioritize the release of all hostages. And Hamas can hope that the pause leads the U.S. to push Israel to moderate its war aims. “To end the war now would leave Hamas still in charge of most of Gaza,” my colleague Patrick Kingsley has written.

Among the catalysts are Palestinian and Jewish-led groups that have been active for years in opposing Israeli policies toward the Palestinians and who now demand a cease-fire in Gaza. The groups have roots in a movement known as BDS, which calls for the boycott, divestment and sanction of Israel. That campaign generated heated rhetoric long before Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7 and Israel launched its counteroffensive. Advocates wrote op-eds for campus newspapers with appeals to protect Palestinian human rights, often accusing Israel of colonialism and racism. Protests have led to disruptions on Capitol Hill, at a major train station in Chicago and New York City’s Grand Central Station.

Both changes to the process for designating a non-bank as a "systemically important financial institution," or SIFI, were proposed in April. Friday's vote reversed a Trump administration policy that regulators should police risky activities rather than single out individual firms. Under the revamped process, FSOC will identify potential SIFIs based on existing information and give the company a chance to respond. Similarly, the Managed Funds Association, which represents hedge funds, said non-banks do not pose the same risks as banks. "The guidance imposes a black box designation process that introduces uncertainty for market participants," said MFA President and CEO Bryan Corbett.

U.N. and other international agencies say there can be small discrepancies between the final casualty numbers and those reported by the Gaza health ministry straight after attacks, but that they broadly trust them. The figures are initially reported in Gaza, and updated in Ramallah after they have been checked, but discrepancies are generally minimal, he said. In a report published on its website on Nov. 3, 2015, the Palestinian health ministry said the number of people killed in the July-August 2014 conflict in Gaza was 2,322. ISRAELI CONCERNIsrael has been attacking Gaza since cross-border raids in which it said 1,400 people were killed by Hamas in southern Israel. An Israeli military spokesman said this week the Gaza health ministry "continuously inflates the number of civilian casualties" and "has been caught lying in the past".

Opinion | Why Hamas Must Go
  + stars: | 2023-10-27 | by ( Dennis B. Ross | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +9 min
If Hamas persists as a military force and is still running Gaza after this war is over, it will attack Israel again. And whether or not Hezbollah opens a true second front from Lebanon during this conflict, it, too, will attack Israel in the future. As one commander in the Israeli military said, “If we do not defeat Hamas, we cannot survive here.”Israel is not alone in believing it must defeat Hamas. Only a few Arab states openly condemned the Hamas massacre of more than 1,400 people in Israel. An outcome that leaves Hamas in control will doom not just Gaza but also much of the rest of the Middle East.

China is ramping up its diplomatic efforts in the Israel-Hamas conflict, with President Xi Jinping issuing his first public comments on the war and calling for a cease-fire.
